Not February 6, The Provincial Government Ensures That The Inauguration of The Governor of Riau is Postponed

PEKANBARU – Tito Karnavian, Minister of Home Affairs, announced the postponing of the inauguration of regional heads coming from the 2024 regional elections that were not disputed by the Constitutional Court, which was earlier scheduled for February 6, 2025.
Tito said that the cancelation was made in reaction to the Constitutional Court's interim decision to issue dismissing orders for 310 claims against the results of the 2024 regional elections. Taufiq OH, Riau's Regional Secretary, responded by saying that his party was aware of the situation.
“We are guided by the central government's nomenclature, which in point three states that the inauguration of regional heads who are not in dispute in the 2024 regional head elections will likely be postponed until February 18-20,” stated Taufiq OH on Friday, January 31, 2025.
Taufiq said that for the next stage, the Riau Provincial Government will wait for radiogram directions from the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
“We are just waiting for directions from the central government. While waiting, we will continue to be guided by the decision of the Minister of Home Affairs” he said.
For those details, the Constitutional Court issued New Regulation Number 1 of 2025 on January 24, 2025. According to this law, the Constitutional Court will issue dismissal judgments for 310 2024 regional election cases on February 4-5, 2025.
This dismissal decision will eliminate the case that was stopped and will continue. Disputes that are stopped can continue at the stage of inauguration of regional heads.
“The non-dispute inauguration of regional heads at the Constitutional Court, 296, on February 6, will be combined with the results of the dismissal decision,” Tito said in a press conference on Friday (31/1/2025).
However, Tito cannot manage to guarantee the inauguration date for hundreds of regional leaders since there is still a follow-up procedure to choose the General Election Commission based on the dismissal results.
The decision will then be proposed by each regional General Election Commission to the relevant Regional People's Representative Council for further consideration by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
“Regarding the date, I will convey it again after we have coordinated with the General Election Commission, with the General Election Supervisory Body, with the Constitutional Court, then we will want to know exactly how long it will take for the General Election Commission, how long it will take for the Constitutional Court to upload (dismissal decision),” he said.
