PEKANBARU - Until the sixth day of the Regional Head Election campaign in Riau, the General Election Supervisory Agency had not found any significant violations.
Alnofrizal, the chairman of the Riau General Election Supervisory Agency, said that, in his view, the campaign was proceeding without any notable infractions.
“Based on the observations of the General Election Supervisory Agency, there were no violations during the campaign,” said Alnofrizal, as reported by mcr, Tuesday (1/10/2024).
Alnofrizal said that despite the lack of explicit conclusions from the General Election Supervisory Agency, the organization has received public allegations about purported campaign breaches and is now compiling further data.
“This is just information about alleged campaign violations, but the information has not been provided in detail,” he added.
Alnofrizal went on to say that some districts in Riau had the highest number of alleged breaches reported to the General Election Supervisory Agency, particularly with reference to the use of money in politics.
“It's a kind of money politics,” he explained.
The Riau General Election Supervisory Agency has instructed the ranks of the General Election Supervisory Agency at the district and city levels to investigate the report.
In accordance with relevant laws, the General Election Supervisory Agency must take appropriate measures upon the discovery of substantial evidence of money politics.
“If it is proven that violations are found, action will be taken in accordance with applicable regulations,” stressed Alnofrizal.
To prevent the practice of money politics during the campaign period, the General Election Supervisory Agency has issued a warning to regional head candidate pairs.
Alnofrizal underlined that candidate pairs are only permitted to provide promotional products with a maximum value of IDR 100,000 per individual, and that sending money to campaign participants is strictly prohibited.
“The General Election Supervisory Agency has reminded regional head candidate pairs that giving money to campaign participants is not permitted,” he said.
“Items such as headgear, mugs, t-shirts, and other items are acceptable and may be traded for up to IDR 100,000 per individual.,” he concluded. (*)
