PT NWR Expresses Deep Condolences for the Accidents of PT ERB Employees and Their Families
PEKANBARU – A single accident occurred involving a group of PT Empat Res Bersaudara (ERB) employees on Saturday (22/2/2025) at around 10:00 AM WIB. The vehicle they were traveling in plunged into the Segati River in the PT Nusa Wana Raya (NWR) area, Segati Village, Langgam District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau.
The vehicle was carrying 32 people, including the driver. This incident resulted in 15 fatalities, while 17 others survived. The victims were employees and family members of PT ERB, who worked as contractors for PT NWR.
A joint team consisting of the TNI, Polri, Basarnas, and PT NWR immediately conducted search and rescue (SAR) operations. The operation was directly led by the Head of the Riau Regional Police, Inspector General Mohammad Iqbal, and involved several key figures, including the Head of the Pelalawan Resort Police, AKBP Afrizal Asri, the Head of the Class II Search and Rescue Office of the Pekanbaru National Search and Rescue Agency, Budi Cahyadi, the Head of the Riau BPBD, Edy Afrizal, as well as personnel from the Riau Regional Police Mobile Brigade, the Water Police Unit, and the Riau Water and Air Police Directorate. Also participating were the Deputy Regent of Pelalawan, Husni Thamrin, and the Head of the Pelalawan Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Section, Zulfan, M.Si.
On the first day of the search, Saturday (22/2/2025), the joint team successfully evacuated 21 victims, including 17 survivors and four deceased individuals. The search continued on Sunday (23/2), during which the team recovered two more victims and retrieved the vehicle from the riverbed.
On the third day, Monday (24/2/2025), nine additional victims were found. With all victims accounted for, the SAR operation was officially concluded.
The surviving victims received medical treatment at the PT NWR clinic, while the deceased victims were identified before being handed over to their families for burial. Director of PT NWR, Muller Tampubolon SE. MM, expressed his deep condolences for this
incident.
"We are very sorry for the disaster that occurred. In the near future, we will visit the victim's family to express our condolences and provide assistance to ease their burden,” he said, Wednesday (26/2/2025).
PT NWR also facilitates the entire evacuation and burial process as a form of concern for the
victims and their families.
PT Nusa Wana Raya expressed its gratitude to all parties involved in the search and evacuation efforts, including the Riau Regional Police, Indonesian National Armed Forces, Pelalawan Resort Police, Riau Police Mobile Brigade, Water Police Unit, Riau Water and Air Police Directorate, National Search and Rescue Agency, Regional Disaster Management Agency of Riau and Pelalawan Regency, as well as the Pelalawan Regency Government. The support from various agencies was highly beneficial in ensuring a swift and efficient response to the incident.
"This accident left deep sorrow for all of us. Hopefully the families left behind will be giveno fortitude and strength to face this ordeal,” concluded Muller. (rls)
