ROHIL – PT Bumi Siak Pusako (BSP), the oil and gas operator for the Pekanbaru Coastal Plain Block (WK CPP), has successfully completed a 156-kilometer 2D seismic survey in Rokan Hilir (Rohil) Regency, Riau.
This project was not only a technical success, but also an outstanding work safety accomplishment, with over 380,000 working hours without incident (NO LTI - Lost Time Injury).
Dudy Lastawan, BSP Exploration Manager, mentioned this during an interview on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
He stated that from September 2024, the exploration team has conducted seismic surveys in five sub-districts: Rimba Melintang, Tanah Putih Tanjung Melawan, Bangko Pusako, Pekaitan, and Kubu Babusalam.
“Alhamdulillah, We completed this set of 2D seismic research projects securely. This exploratory program represents a definite work commitment to the nation. It is envisaged that the data acquired can precisely validate the potential of oil and gas resources,” said Dudy Lastawan, BSP Exploration Manager, Wednesday (15/1/2025).
Dudy said that it was important to carry out exploration because the CPP Block area had not had any significant activities for a long time. So activities are needed to look for potential sources of oil and gas reserves.
“Topography, bridging, drilling, and recording are already complete; all that remains is data processing. Later, as a consequence of data processing, we will be able to determine if the examined sites have prospective commercial oil and gas deposits. "If it has potential, it will be submitted to SKK Migas as a drilling candidate,” he said.
Meanwhile, in a separate location, the Head of Representative of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) Sumbagut, CW Wicaksono, praised PT BSP for completing the initial seismic survey activities at the CPP WK following the process of transferring management to PT BSP, particularly in Block D, which has not been explored or exploited in 20 years.
“We hope that with seismic survey activities in block D WK CPP, PT BSP KKKS can find new oil and gas reserves and continue to maintain PT BSP's existence as a regionally owned upstream oil and gas company with the largest production in Indonesia,” he said.
In addition to carrying out its work, BSP assures compensation to landowners if it disrupts community gardens on the survey route via its partners in compliance with current rules. This action is part of the company's social duty to the local community.
“Later, the regent will announce a decree establishing the compensation system. Because it is our social obligation, if the survey route has an influence on people's plants or homes, compensation will be provided,” he said.
Raihan, General Manager of PT BSP, said that this seismic research was part of BSP's firm commitment to administering the CPP WK, a significant oil and gas block formerly administered jointly with Pertamina Hulu via the Joint Operations Agency. Since August 9, 2022, the BSP has officially handled the CPP WK autonomously, with a 100% concession until August 8, 2042, under the Gross Split Scheme.
“As a Regional-Owned Enterprise, we are committed to increasing oil and gas production in this area while prioritizing worker safety and environmental preservation. Because the purpose is also for the benefit of society,” explained Raihan.
The survey route that passes through the Rokan River canals carries the risk of the presence of crocodiles nesting in the area. In addition, community reports regarding the presence of tigers and bears around forests and acacia and oil palm plantations add to the complexity of conducting the survey.
However, BSP succeeded in overcoming these challenges by implementing strict safety procedures. The survey team is also prepared to face extreme weather, floods and the potential for forest fires that often hit the area.
“In the workplace, we place a strong emphasis on safety and health, sometimes known as HSE. In addition to BSP, we supervise firms with which we partner. Alhamdulillah, we may get maximum final results," he said.
The success of this 2D seismic survey opens up new exploration opportunities for the CPP WK which contributes to national energy security. As a regionally based operator, BSP is committed to continuing to provide economic benefits for the people of Riau, both through oil and gas exploration activities and corporate social responsibility programs.
